Mixing Patterns with Confidence
Three patterns, one palette. A designer's approach to combining florals, stripes, and geometrics without looking busy.
Pattern mixing intimidates most people because they focus on the pattern instead of the palette. Lock the palette first, and almost anything works.
The 3-scale rule
Use one large-scale pattern (a bold floral), one mid-scale (a stripe or check), and one small-scale (a textural weave or micro-geometric). The eye reads variety, not noise.
Anchor with a solid
Always include at least one solid textural pillow — bouclé, mohair, washed linen — to give the pattern room to breathe.
